“The Sound of Steinway Pianos is not only strong but full of colours. I can express my feelings in music easily with these instruments.”

Frank-Immo Zichner

Frank-Immo Zichner is a pianist with an extraordinarily wide repertoire. His interests in music go beyond the main works of solo and chamber music literature. Many of his CDs and concert programmes include the works of often unjustly forgotten composers. For some of his around 25 CD recordings, Frank-Immo Zichner has been awarded The German Record Critic’s Award (Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik), Supersonic Award and the Diapason Découverte.

His concerts led him to over 30 countries in Europe, South East Asia, Central and South America, to Japan and to festivals like the Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival, Berliner Festwochen, Berlin Biennale, Kissinger Summer, Moscow Autumn Festival, the Sligo Festival Ireland and the Westfalen Classics Festival. As a soloist he played with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, and Staatskapelle Schwerin among others, under the baton of Marek Janowski, Michail Jurowski, and Michael Sanderling.

Zichner received his musical training in the class of Dieter Zechlin (Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin). His supporters were Menahem Pressler, Jakob Lateiner, and György Kurtág.

Since 2011, Frank-Immo Zichner has taught at Berlin University of the Arts (Universität der Künste Berlin) and has founded the institute’s Centre for Chamber Music (Kammermusikzentrum). Previously, Frank-Immo Zichner had taught piano solo, chamber music, and accompaniment at Universities of Music in Berlin, Leipzig, Rostock, and Weimar. In 2004, Frank-Immo Zichner was Visiting Professor at the University of Music in Bloomington (USA), filling in for Menahem Pressler. Zichner gave master classes in Germany and abroad and was jury member at international competitions. Since 2019 Zichner is Visiting Professor at the Chopin Music University in Warsaw (Poland).
