Position Summary:
Steinway & Sons is seeking a dynamic HR Generalist to fill a critical role on the HR team. This is a unique opportunity to be part of an iconic brand, working out of the historic factory in Astoria, New York, where pianos are still made by hand by artisans and woodworkers.
This role provides HR support to our Steinway Corporate, Retail, Wholesale and Manufacturing divisions. The position involves administering all of Steinway’s benefit plans, hiring and onboarding for union positions and assisting in onboarding for staff positions, both at our Astoria location and our retail showrooms across the US. The position also involves supporting our manufacturing team in the handling of union issues and discipline of union employees. This position reports to the VP of Human Resources.
Main Responsibilities:
• Recruit for manufacturing union employees and support managers in creating onboarding plans
• Oversee union employee relations, grievances and implementation of Union collective bargaining agreement
• Serve as the main point of contact for manufacturing management and shop steward
• Oversee employee performance review process and support managers with development planning
• Oversee benefit enrollment and administration process, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, pension, and 401K.
• Support salary administration, headcount, workers compensation and leave administration
• Lead planning committee for employee social events and luncheons
• Support other day-to-day management of HR projects as needed
Qualifications, education and experience:
• Bachelor’s degree combined with relevant work experience
• 4+ years of Generalist HR experience
• Fluency in Spanish is required.
• Experience working in a manufacturing environment is a plus
• Strong technical and organizational skills, with solid proficiency in Microsoft word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to handle multiple requests in a timely manner
• Be an enthusiastic team player with a strong drive to create a positive work environment
• Ability to deal with ambiguity and confidential information
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels
• Proactive individual with ability to execute with excellence both independently and within a team
The estimated annualized base salary range for this role is $80,000-$90,000. Compensation will vary based on skills and experience.
